Chris Beaumont is a member of CNET’s video team — or CBS Interactive, or whatever we’re called now — and also a very talented photographer. His blog is sweetly set up to showcase his images, although for he’s spoiled it a bit by putting me on there.

downloads: youcontrol:tunes vs sizzlingkeys

So I cheerfully added YouControl:Tunes, which puts iTunes controller buttons into your menu bar. It also gives access to all tunes via drop-down menu, so you don’t have to leave your application to alter tunes. I had to prune the various icons in my menu bar to make space, but it was worth it for the main thing YouControl:Tunes does that puts it above FoxyTunes, the Firefox extension that puts media player into your Firefox status bar: YouControl:Tunes allows you to rate songs in the menu bar.

But then I discovered that SizzlingKeys, which I already have, goes one better: ALT+CMD+a number rates the song. Keyboard shortcuts beats menu bar every time — which is good because I miss my Plaxo sync button in the menu bar.
